Reviews aren't just about having a good riding experience. It is about the WHOLE TRANSACTION. Imagine if someone got hurt on a trail. I wouldn't want to deal with an uncommunicative, defensive, scatterbrained collection of half-answers if something like that happened. I will be finding another business to take my money.
She also gave herself 5 stars to raise her own rating.
i love this place, i've been there for years and wouldn't want to ride in any other place. very friendly, and horses are as sweet as can be, people need to remember that at the end of the day horses are ANIMALS. Sunset Stables is a place to LEARN, which is exactly what you are thought there, how to be able to manage a horse, and care for a horse as if you were an owner. Having everything done for you, is not how you learn. There are very responsible workers who insure the safety of both rider and horse.
Fantastic owner, she chooses her horses with great expertise. The staff are patient and informative. Great experience, beautiful scenery.
The owner of sunset should understand that a huge part of running a business is communicating with customers. I have emailed the business multiple times, trying to get information on lessons, over a 3-month period. After many days, I would receive a 5-word email with no name or signature, and it didn't answer ANY of my questions (do we need our own tack? times avail? etc.).
After 3 back-and-forth emails to attempt to get my questions answered (she would only reply back with a time/date and "do you want to come?"), I finally asked who I was corresponding with, because there was never a name on anything. Yes, it is a working farm, but the owner needs to hire someone to run her business. She stinks at communication and it is very frustrating.
I've been riding horses for about 4 years now, and I had no fun at all. Don't go here. Not recommended for anyone. Keep in mind that they use western tack, which is A LOT heavier than English tack. Younger children will have trouble carrying it, and they don't even help you! In fact, they don't help you catch your horse, groom it, lead it, or tack it up. The horse I rode was stubborn, and they said that if I didn't catch her, I didn't ride. Many times they told me I was A bad rider, even though I am good and experienced. Also, they false advertise. It says family friendly farm, yet they were not kind to me or my mother (who picked me up). The owner is awful at communicating. My mother and I spent days trying to connect with them. We called, visited, emailed, messaged, and got nothing. The owner says she would reply within 24 hours, but nothing. Ms. Sue, I understand that you're busy, but someone should be at the stables answering phone calls when you are not. We sent very clear messages multiple times. We finally connected at another camp when some people from Sunset brought horses over for the kids to paint. The animals were beautiful and well cared for. But the trainers are harsh with the horses compared to the trainers at other stables that I've been to. This place is awful, terrible, horrible, and disappointing. Very sad. We were expecting so much more.
Amazing owner and staff!! Worked well with my daughter. Amazing amazing place to ride!!!
