One of the best state parks I've visited. Hiking, fishing, camping and boating they have it all. Several large recreation areas with plenty of tables, charcoal grills and reservable pavilions to handle anything from a Sunday picnic to the biggest family reunion. The nature center is a great place to start out, but for the more adventurous the GoApe course offers tree top thrills and amazing zip lines through the trees and over the water. Year round Lums pond is a scenic and relaxed place to create memories and enjoy nature.
Nice place for outdoor activities such as kayaking, zip lining, barbecue and sports. Has good trails for hikers. There is a farm nearby that takes for horse riding through the park.
I love hiking the trail around the pond very much and try to hike it every week. It's an easy, dirt trail, with no hills, and you can see wildlife and views of the pond as you hike. You have to watch out for cyclists, who don't always keep an eye out for you, or people who don't leash their dogs, but that's true on any trail. There are several spots on the trail that get muddy or form large puddles after it rains which I really wish were filled in with gravel or something. It takes me about 2 hours to get all the way around the pond walking at a decent pace and is about 6 1/2 miles or so.
Great park! I went for an eveninv hayride and it was a bit confusing to get to the correct parking lot because the lots are numbered "backwards" from the the entrance - 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. (Okay, maybe it was more due to the excited, screaming kids in the car!) Other than that though, we had a great time. Really nice, big bathrooms. Not sure if they are always open or if it was only because of the event. Either way, definitely a great place that you could spend quite a few hours playing, hiking, relaxing....
Lums Pond is close to me so I get to enjoy it often. I love this park.
The rest of the park is beautiful too, with camping areas, playground for kids, boat rentals, fishing spots, pavilions for picnics, camps for kids, zip line course, disc golf course, football field area, baseball diamonds, a dog park and more.
Great little spot of nature in New Castle County. Lums Pond has everything, great trails, paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, there is a place to take a horse on the trails and a great challenge course with Go Ape. There is a dedicated 5k course for cross country and mini triathlons are held here as well. Plenty of pavilions and charcoal grill for large gatherings and there are athletic fields for all sports, football, baseball, soccer, cricket, basketball, tennis, and horseshoes. Nature lodge has great interactive exhibits for younger kids and it's a great place to view wildlife.
