Believe the complaints. This bear office is horrible. If you are on time at a early appointment they still are running 30 to 40 minutes behind. I never seen anything like it. They provide various excuses to why, every time, they are running behind. After attempting appointment after appointment being on time and still having to wait 30 to 40 minutes in the front room before being called back. The first time I enter the office 20 minutes late for a double block 1 hour appointment (two kids) they pushed me back 3 hours. This is despite the fact that when we arrived they were still working the appointment before us. After digging in deeper, I found out they were 40 minutes behind when we arrived and used our block (using the you were late loophole) to push us back so they can catch up.
I've only been a patient for about 3 months and can only speak to my experience at the Bear facility.
I was going to this office for my prenatal treatment. Two different practitioners who were supposed to be treating me left the office within a short time of eachother. The office cancelled an appointment that I had scheduled and no one bothered to call and let me know. Also, it was impossible to get a nurse on the phone about anything, and always turned into several days of playing phone tag. When I brought up any of my concerns, no one ever seemed to care, and just gave me half-hearted excuses. I've finally been able to switch to a different doctor's office for the remainder of my pregnancy, as I was fearing for my unborn baby's health.
Excellent place for all your health care needs. Everyone is super friendly.
3) Appointment Wait Times: Twice now, I've arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and ended up waiting 45 minutes PAST my appointment time before I was even called into the offices. The 2nd time, it had been an hour past my appointment time before I saw the doctor. Absolutely unprofessional. I wasn't a walk in - I had a standing weekly appointment.
All in all, I just generally wouldn't recommend this facility. It does have some pros which include a vividly bilingual staff and a flexible/sliding payment scale for those who need it, but unless those two services are your main requirements for finding a doctor's office, I would definitely skip Westside. I DO NOT recommend.
1) Lost Prescriptions and Lack of Followup When Asked: I had one prescription that was supposed to be sent to my local pharmacy - I went to pick up about 5 hours after my appointment and they had no record of it. The crosschecked another store's listing to see if it had been sent to the wrong address, but they still didn't see anything. I made sure to go to the second pharmacy that it could have been sent to and they also didn't have a record of it ever being sent. This began a two week long back and forth between calling westside, waiting on hold and being told it's been sent and the pharmacy should have it, only for the pharmacy to say they never received anything.
5) Apathetic Staff: It's very clear that staff do form relationships with some of the patients who perhaps have been there long term or are friends/family, but they're not inviting to newcomers. They have a sign-in sheet that they wont even acknowledge you until you sign, then you go sit and wait only to be called back up to be registered as there. Comes across really impersonal and I was really put off the first time I walked in. Usually patients are registered AS they're signing in. I shouldn't have to go sit down as receptionists finish their conversations about parties they're going to over the weekend or the news on the TV. It's not an inviting atmosphere and there are so many moving parts: nurses, receptionists, techs, RNs and doctors(?) that don't appropriately introduce themselves or tell you how they're connected to you and your case.
4) Centralized Scheduling: As a doctors office with so many sites, it absolutely makes sense that they use centralized scheduling to keep track of their many sites and staff. What DOESN'T make sense is that the receptionists at the Bear office don't have access to those schedules. You cannot make your next appointment at the front desk - you have to call a central hotline and make it over the phone. Completely inconvenient and what a waste of efficiency when Bear sometimes has 4+ receptionists/staff working the front desk at a time.
2) Phone Wait Times & Dropped Calls: On more than one occasion, I've been kept on hold by either nurses or receptionists for 25+ minutes. My partner (who called about a hospital procedure check-in time) was kept on hold for 40+ minutes yesterday. Not only is this infuriating and shows that westside generally doesn't care about its customer service, I called the central scheduling line (which has completely separate employees than the receptionists/nurses/staff from your local office) had to schedule me for my next appointment and when she wanted to transfer me over to reception, had noticed that there were 3 people in queue to be answered on the phone at the beginning of our call - we chatted for about 15 minutes and by the end, the same 3 people were waiting to be talked to. Then all of a sudden, all 3 calls were dropped. This doesn't surprise me in the slightest. In addition, every time I've had to call and leave a message for someone, its taken anywhere from 4 hours to the next day for anyone to get back to me, even in urgent circumstances.
Rude and was told new patients is 2 week wait.
